On the base of East Katsuta-dake, treeless wild rocky fields spread across around a plateau at the altitude near 1300m. Volcanic rocks and lapilli are accumulated by multiple eruptions. It is also used as a starting point of a mountain trail to Northe Zao.
(Zao Temple, Enmei Jizo Son)_x000D_
There is Zao Temple on the east side. In the Hakuou era (672 - 686) when the mountain religion was prosperous, this was a place of practicing asceticism. It became an abolished temple due to Shinbutsubunri edict to separate Shinto and Buddhism in 1872. However it was revived in 1954.The life-sized statute of Enmei Jizo Son stands in the precincts._x000D_
