It is about 5 minutes by car from the center of Toh-gatta Onsen Town. After entering the side road from the Prefectural Highway No. 12, there is "Zao Yaki Manpu-gama".
Here, several courses of pottery experiences that beginners can also enjoy are available.

The "Hand Forming Course" that even beginners can easily try
The popular "Electric Potter's Wheel Course" that you can enjoy full-fledged ceramic art experience
And the "Crayon Painting Course" where children under elementary school can also enjoy.
This time I tried the "Hand Forming Course".
In the room where the pottery experience takes place, there are a number of workbenches on which about six people can sit, and up to 60 people can be accommodated. You can visit by yourself or as a group tour.
There are also follow-ups in English, so overseas customers are welcome.
Hand forming is a technique of using hands to rotate the poettry wheel instead of using the electric wheel and pull into shape by hands.
Since it is similar to playing with a clay, a wide range of age groups can enjoy. Since you can shape it to your liking, you can make an unique piece of work.
"In the Hand Forming Course, you can make as many pieces as you want, if it is within a certain amount of clay.
It seems that men like to make a sake pitcher and a large sized cup for sake, while women like to make small bowls and kids like to make dishes. "
There are three kinds of clay to choose from: 'Red Clay', 'White Clay' and 'Blend Clay'.
There are also 30 types of glazes (voyeurs), so even in the same type of work, the look will be various with the color of the clay and and the glaze.

We made 2 or 3 pieces of work per person in the Hand Forming Course. It took up about 2.5 hours. I'm looking forward to how they look after baking in the 1.5 to 2 months time!
